The owner of the only ticket to win the US Lottery jackpot of $ 2.04 billion bought from a store in California.
Powerball website on November 8 announced that the world’s largest jackpot has been won, ending 40 draws without a winner since August 3.
The owner of the ticket, who has not been identified, can choose to receive a lump sum of $997.5 million or receive the entire $2.04 billion winnings over 29 years.
The winning ticket had the numbers 10, 33, 41, 47, 56 and the Powerball number 10. The ticket was sold at Joe’s grocery store in Altadena, California. Joseph Chahayed, shop owner, said “I arrived at the store at 6 o’clock, was about to open, when I saw people from the state lottery company waiting, saying there was good news.”
“I had a feeling that the store sold the winning ticket. Then we were so excited, we had a coffee party all morning with people from the lottery company. We received more and more good news about it. the winner, hopefully it’s someone from the Altadena region,” he expressed.
Chahayed spent the day giving media interviews and greetings from neighbors and customers. He will receive a million dollars for selling the winning ticket. Chahayed announced that he would return to work on 9/11.
“6am. I love my job,” he said with a laugh.
The last Powerball jackpot record was in 2016. Owners of three tickets purchased from California, Florida and Tennessee shared the $1.59 billion prize.
Powerball is played in 45 US states, Washington, DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. The probability of winning is one in 292.2 million. The player chooses 5 numbers from a range from 1 to 69. A sixth number, called the Powerball, is selected from a different range, from 1 to 26. Each ticket costs 2 USD.
